The Biltmore Cumberland Historic District is a small suburban neighborhood east of downtown Lakeland, Florida. Its boundaries are Ingraham Avenue to the west, Hollingsworth Road to the east, Lime Street to the north, and McDonald Street to the south.
The records in this collection were created as a result of a survey of the proposed Biltmore Cumberland Historic District commissioned in 2003 by Lakeland's Community Development Office. The survey was conducted during the spring of 2003 by Sydney Johnston under contract to the City of Lakeland. The Biltmore Cumberland neighborhood was granted historic district status in 2004.
Johnston’s company produced what are known as site survey forms or historic structure forms for 162 structures in the Biltmore Cumberland neighborhood which were more than fifty years old. In order to be eligible for historic district status 50% or more of the structures had to be at least 50 years old. The completed site survey forms contain a wide variety of information about each structure, including location, date of construction (if known), architectural style, original owner (if known), and specific construction details such as materials used, type of foundation, and roofing and siding materials. Each survey form also includes a photocopy of a photo of the structure taken at the time of the survey and two maps, one of the Biltmore Cumberland Historic District, and a larger scale map of Lakeland indicating the location of the structure.
The site survey forms are reproduced here as PDF files and are searchable by address.
