This collection consists of issues of a Lakeland High School publication entitled The Crescent. It was a combination of a literary magazine and school newspaper that began publication in October 1913. Its purpose, as outlined in the first issue, was to create a "clean and moral magazine, advocating new and progressive ideas, and at the same time possessing some small literary merit."
The Crescent was published monthly during the school year, with the last issue each year serving as a senior yearbook. The other issues generally contained a mix of short stories, essays, poems, humor columns, school news and sports coverage and pages of local advertising.
The magazine appears to have ceased publication in 1917.
