This collection consists of issues of the Lakeland High School student newspaper, The Bagpipe. It appears to be the successor to The Percolator, which was published between 1922 and 1930. The Bagpipe began publication in 1937as The Bag Pipe. Its publication schedule was somewhat erratic, but generally ranged between 10 and 17 issues per academic year and 4 to 8 pages per issue, with the exception of the "graduation" issue of 12 to 14 pages. Volume and issue numbers were also inconsistent and some issues lack one or both.
Although The Bagpipe was first published in 1937 and continues to be published in a digital format, the earliest issue in this collection dates to 1939 and the latest to 1989. There are huge gaps in the collection, but even with that shortcoming, these issues of The Bagpipe provide insight into the changing interests, lifestyles, and mores of high school students spanning more than half a century.
