This collection consists of pages scanned fom the high school yearbooks or annuals of Lakeland High School in Lakeland, Florida. The high school began publishing a yearbook in 1914. That first yearbook was actually a special issue of a student literary magazine known as The Crescent published in May of 1914 to honor the graduating class. That tradition continued through 1917 when The Crescent ceased publication, though the library has only the 1914 and 1917 volumes.
Although later yearbooks make reference to continuous publication, the library does not have yearbooks for 1918-1921. The 1922 yearbook was titled The Orange and Black in recognition of Lakeland High School's school colors. The title was changed to The Highlander in 1923 and remains so to the present day.
Due to the sheer volume of pages, limited resources and concerns about copyright, the Lakeland Public Library has scanned and made available only the "senior" section of each yearbook from 1922 to 1977 inclusive, with the exception of the 1914 and 1917 issues of The Crescdent, which are reproduced in their entirety. Yearbooks published after 1977 are available for viewing in the Lakeland Public Library.
