"Lakeland, City of Heart's Desire is a song written by Lakeland, Florida real estate developer J. T. Horney to promote both the city of Lakeland and his own real estate developments, particularly Hornadena Beach on Lake Parker. Although the song's refrain praises Lakeland as the "City of heart's desire," the lyrics tell listeners that "Hornadena Beach is just the place to stay." In case that message was missed, the back cover of the sheet music is a full page advertisement for Hornadena Beach. The song's title was borrowed from a Lakeland Chamber Chamber of Commerce pamphlet published two years earlier.
